Otis stretches out on the console, one eye half-closed, the other fixed on me like he knows something I don’t. Which, of course, he does.

“You keep acting like this is a choice,” he says, paw brushing a fader just enough to make the bass hum. “Like you could’ve picked something else. Golf. Accounting. Collecting stamps.” His whiskers twitch. “But you didn’t. Because you couldn’t.”

He pauses, grooming a paw, taking his time.

“Your art chose you,” he says finally. “It’s in your blood. That’s why you can’t sleep some nights until you’ve written it down. Why silence feels heavier than noise. Why you keep coming back, even when it costs you.”

I open my mouth, ready to argue, but he cuts me off with a look.
“Resistance is futile. You have been assimilated.” His tail flicks against the board. “And thank God for that.”

Then he hops down, leaving the room quiet except for the track playing back. Alive, pulsing, mine.
