The cursor blinked on the screen. My coffee had gone cold hours ago. I closed my eyes for a moment. Then I was climbing a mountain.

I was trudging up the slope, laptop satchel over my shoulder, book in hand, snare drum on my back, and dragging my mixing console behind me.
The trail narrowed and pitched upward. The mixing console snagged on rocks behind. The strap of the snare drum bit into my shoulder.
At the summit, the Griffin waited. His eyes followed my progress long before I reached him.
“Why have you come?” asking in a low voice, older than the mountain itself.
I struggled forward. “Mastery. I seek mastery.”
The Griffin regarded me. “Do you?”
“The mountain. I have climbed it”
“I noticed.”
“I carried everything.”
“I noticed that too.”
“Then I am ready.”
The Griffin was silent for a moment.
“No.”
“No?”
“No.”
“How much longer?”
The Griffin stretched its wings.
“Ten years.”
“Ten years?”
“Perhaps.”
“I have spent decades climbing this mountain.”
“Yes.”
“And you want another ten years?”
“Would you prefer twenty?”
“Why? What do you want from me?”
The Griffin considered me for a long moment. “Vigilance. Courage. Strength. Protection. Worthiness.”
“I have already proven those.”
“No,” said the Griffin. “You have practiced them.” His gaze never left mine.
“Now you must embody them.”

Can We Help You?
Have you mistaken progress for arrival?

If the griffin told you it would take another ten years, would you keep climbing? Leave a comment below. If you enjoyed this post, please share it with a fellow creative and subscribe for more lessons in Furlosophy. Thank you for joining Otis and me on the journey.
