The Gospel According To Otis: No Compromise

Otis stalks across a recording studio mixing console in The Gospel According to Otis: No Compromise, a Mackncheeze Music blog post about creative obsession, focus, and refusing halfway commitment.

You keep saying you want it, your art, the whole thing.

But you are approaching this like a tourist.

You ask, What do you mean, tourist?

A tourist visits when it’s convenient. A cat doesn’t.

You think I chase mice halfway? Halfway guard territory? Halfway commit to a jump?

When I move, I move.

You people love the phrase ‘all in.’ Sounds dramatic. Makes good coffee mug philosophy.

Being all in isn’t about quitting your job tomorrow and living on canned beans and Top Ramen, all the while posting inspirational quotes online.

It is obsession.

There is no negotiation with a cat.

If something matters, attention goes there. Energy goes there. Time goes there.

Don’t you know what ‘all in’ looks like?

You stop asking your mood for permission.

If you aren’t all in, you’re not in at all.
