Art is meant to be felt, not explained. The way a song or piece of art moves you—how it stirs your emotions or conjures images—is deeply personal. Sharing the story behind its creation might interfere with that connection. Instead, let the music speak directly to you. Let it shape its meaning in your mind, untouched by the artist’s intent.
“With You” was born from layers of inspiration. It began with a groove—a bassline influenced by the 90s group Bad Mother Goose. Playing alongside Seattle’s top bassists taught me the power of the bass, how it bridges melody and rhythm. The groove led to lyrics, and the lyrics shaped a melody, all of it tied to the feeling of presence, faith, and connection.
The song “With You” means that a spirit is timeless; if you believe in that sort of thing, and being present in the moment, pushing on the interference is very important for perception, the feeling is very replenishing. I won’t go over the lyrics line by line or what each phrase meant, but know that there were three intended meanings behind each. Michel Boyer November 15, 2024
