The Gospel According To Otis: Creative Destiny

A defiant cat sits before an empty stage, challenging the myth of fate and reframing creative destiny as a result of choice, action, and refusal to wait for permission.

A cat stares down a non-existent, unimpressed by fate. A visual metaphor for creative destiny—claimed through action, not signs, prophecy, or permission.

I once overheard a human say everything happens for a reason.

According to humans, there is a plan in the universe.

The astrologers look for alignment in the stars. Ancient forces tug invisible strings.

The Fates are sealed.

I know about forces.

Gravity. Hunger. The inexplicable pull of cardboard boxes.

But destiny?

You humans love heroes battling prophecy, trying to outrun curses, rewriting futures, or appeasing mysterious powers that apparently have nothing better to do than micromanage mortal lives.

Fate assumes I am compliant. Nope.

I quietly observe, take a tactical pause, then maneuver. That whole belief system looks foolhardy.

This is what humans miss in their epic struggles with Fate: You don’t defeat destiny by wrestling it. You win when you refuse to believe it is essential to your creativity.

These are the preconceived notions of your nightly nocturnal journeys. You think that is the time when inspiration is supposed to arrive, how the ritual is meant to unfold, what the universe allegedly “owes” you.

Those notions do more damage than any supernatural force ever could.

Don’t wait for signs.

Wait until something is worth responding to.

Or inspect your territory. If you can’t find the muse, be your own.

Bring the trophy home. Lay it on the porch. Teach the humans what it means to hunt.

The Fates have authority?

Every morning, Fate tells me I will nap. Fate isn’t even worth responding to.

The red dot makes its usual threat. Until it bores me.

The vacuum screams? I walk away.

The food bowl isn’t full? I demand it be replenished.

I don’t negotiate or comply.
And somehow, things arrange themselves.

Is your creativity all about what Fate is bringing to you?

It could be about not letting mysterious forces convince you they’re in charge of your choices.

Fate can be put on hold.
